Fingerprinting

Fingerprinting is handled by a third-party company hired by the state, IdentoGO. You must make an appointment with IdentoGO to complete the 2nd step of the application process before visiting your local law enforcement agency. Steuben County currently does not have a location available.


Application Process

  1. Complete a Handgun License Application online at the Indiana State Police Licensing Portal.

  2. Schedule an appointment with IdentoGo to submit your fingerprints electronically.

  3. Complete local law enforcement agency processing within 90 days.

After you complete Step 1, you will only have 90 days to complete Steps 2 and 3. Once all of the above steps are completed, your application will be electronically transmitted to ISP for final review. If your application expires you must renew the application to continue where you left off before the process can continue.

If your application is approved, your permit will be sent to you via US Mail.

If your application is rejected, you will be notified via US Mail and will receive instructions on how to file an appeal.

Fees

Effective July 1, 2021 the lifetime license to carry a handgun will become fee exempt, per IC 35-47-2-4.
