Gun Permits
Guidlines for applying for a gun permit through the Steuben County Sheriff's Office:
·You must live in Steuben County outside of any city limits. Persons living inside any city limits must apply at their city police department.
·Must be 18 years of age or older.
·Must not have a felony conviction.
·Must bring a valid ID.
·You cannot renew your gun permit prior to 30 days before the permit expires.

Application Process
Step One:
Complete an on-line application at http://aries.in.gov/firearms/permit.aspx. After the application has been successfully submitted, the applicant will receive a confirmation page with their application number.
NOTE: Your application has not completed the submission process until you receive this confirmation page with the application number.
Step Two:
Call MorphoTrust USA to set up an appointment for fingerprinting at 1.877.472.6917. There is an additional fee of $10.95 to MorphoTrust USA.
The MorphoTrust USA choses the location and times for fingerprinting. The location currently being used is the Ramada Inn, 3855 N SR 127, Angola IN 46703. At the time of service, the applicant pays the state application fee to MorphoTrust US buy providing a money order which must be made out to the State of Indiana.
Note: There is an option to pay on-line during the application process as well.
Step Three:
Go to the Steuben County Sheriff's Office or your local police to pay your local fees. The Sheriff's Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. The Sheriff's Office or local police agency will print a copy of your application to have you review, date, and sign it.
The Steuben County Sheriff's Office or local police agency will then conduct a background check, process the application, and forward the application to the State of Indiana Firearms Section via computer.
The State will then mail you your new permit in the mail.
