Marine Patrol Activity
The following data is the result of deputy activity while conducting marine patrol efforts in Steuben County during the busy boater activity season in 2016. The below statistics are from the Sheriff’s Office only and do not include activities of the DNR.

There were 107 scheduled patrols this year. Each scheduled patrol is approximately 4 hours but sometimes are more or less based on boat traffic or weather conditions. Eighteen different lakes throughout Steuben County were primarily patrolled this season.
Fifth year in a row with no major boating accidents or drowning’s during the busy summer boating activity season. All Marine Patrol efforts are the result of a $20,000.00 grant through the Department of Natural Resources from L.A.R.E. funding and local donations. The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office Marine patrol effort has a strong emphasis on high visibility and boater safety education.
